The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), an umbrella organisation of journalists, has appealed to the entire communications sector to fulfill its major responsibility in the containment of COVID-19 pandemic.
In a press statement today, FNJ chair Govinda Acharya has called on all FNJ state committees, associate organisations , district and institutional branches to cooperate and coordinate with the communications sector in the control of COVID-19.
”COVID-19 has been spreading as a global pandemic and Nepal face a challenge of its high risk and in this context, I appreciate all those journalists and media persons accomplishing the responsibilities for delivering fact-based and awareness-raising contents among the public amidst several adversities during the crisis.” he said.
Stating that COVID-19 has already passed its initial phase in the country with the detection of a local transmission level case, the FNJ has appealed to the three-tier government, all State’s apparatus, political parties, civic organistions, professionals and business community to move ahead with the same mission in mind and action: the prevention and containment of COVID-19: by keeping mutual differences and disagreements aside during this crisis.
The FNJ has sought a package programme for the motivation and safety of journalists and effectiveness and regularity of media houses during this crisis. It also calls for the role of journalists in the prevention of unnecessary rumours about the pandemic and for more public awareness- raising media contents.
