Traffic police on Sunday took action against 20 persons for charging the passengers higher transportation fare in the public vehicles in the Kathmandu Valley.
Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) in Kathmandu acted on the complaints registered by the passengers on the traffic hotline 103.
MTPD Chief Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhim Prasad Dhakal shared that altogether 46 persons were booked in the last three days on the charges of fleecing the passengers.
The traffic police masquerading as the passengers also caught the assistant drivers of the public transports red-hand while overcharging the passengers. Police held them from New Bus Park, Koteshwor, Balkhu, Chabahil and Gaushala.
Furthermore, the assistant drivers were found to have sold the same ticket to two persons while some public transport staff had barred the passengers refusing to pay twice the normal fares from boarding their vehicles.
The traffic police have been stepping up actions against the erring vehicle operators.
