NC urges to address hunger strikers’ demands

Main opposition Nepali Congress party has urged the concerned authorities to address the demands put forth by hunger strikers.

Issuing a press release today, NC Spokesperson Biswo Prakash Sharma called on the government to address the demand of hunger strikers as the latter have been staying on hunger strike demanding solution to the local problems of Madi municiplaity-4 in Chitwan for the past four days.

The hunger strikers have demanded the re-amendment to the National Park and Wildlife Conservation (Fifth Amendment) Regulation-2076 as it has failed to address the human rights aspects and sensitivities of the spectacular areas like Madi.

Among the demands raised by the hunger strikers include making proper arrangement for citizens living in Bandarjhula, Amiliya, placing definite scientific structure between forest and settlement to prevent human-animal conflict and construction of Rewkhola corridor.

Other demands are up-gradation of road from Kasa to Bankatta and from Bagahi to Bandarjhula and keeping them open for 24 hours, formulating and implementing special plan to develop Madi municipality as a tourism hub and ensuring local people’s full access to natural resources.

Madi municipality-1 chairperson Krishna Prasad Poudel along with ward members had staged fasting unto death to have their demands addressed. They had sit for hunger strike when the local people’s demands to that end were ignored by the municipality authorities.
