The ‘Gaurishanker Khadka memorial award’ has been presented to various individuals here on Friday. The prize carrying a purse of Rs 50,000 is presented by the Gaurishanker Memorial Academy.
Those honored with the prize include founding general secretary of Federation of Nepali Journalists Chandra Bhandari, senior singer Ram Chandra Duwal, JB Tuhure, Mani Thapa and Jeevan Sharma.
The prize is founded in the memory of late Gaurishanker Khadka, who was elected to the first Constituent Assembly from Jhapa Constituency no. 2. He died on Falgun 2067 of cancer. The academy presents the award annually.
Member of Federal Parliament Amrit Kumar Bohara presented the prize at a function held at the Devi Secondary School in Birtamode. On the occasion, MP Bohara lauded the contribution of the prize recipients in political transformation of the country.
Academy chair Pursottam Chundal shed light on the contribution of Khakda in the development of Jhapa district.
