Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has installed the life-size statues of the four martyrs amidst the commemoration of the Martyr’s Week.
The statues of martyrs Dharma Bhakta Mathema and Shukra Raj Shastri have been installed at Sifal, KMC Ward No 7 and at Teku Machali, KMC Ward No 12, respectively, last year before this.
On the third day today under the Martyr’s Week, the life-size statues of martyrs Ganga Lal Shrestha and Dasharath Chand have been unveiled. Mahesh Tuladhar had sculpted the statues.
They had attained martyrdom in course of the movement for establishing democracy in Nepal in 1997 BS or 1941 AD.
KMC mayor and Martyr’s Week Programme Main Committee coordinator Bidya Sundar Shakya unveiled the statues amidst a function today. On the occasion, he said the life-size statues of the martyrs have been installed to remember for eternity the martyrs who gave their lives for securing freedom and civic rights along with change in the political system.
KMC spokesperson Ishwor Man Dangol said the existing mindset has to be changed for fulfilling the dreams of the martyrs.
