In 2017 election of Waling Municipality (Syangja district), candidate Dilip Pratap Khan of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 10,600 (50.52%) votes out of total votes of 20,981 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Punya Prasad Aryal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 8,749 (27.70%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 1,632 (3.89) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Kalpana Tiwari of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 9,895 (47.56%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Khagi Sara Thapa Magar of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 9,357 (30.48%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 1,552 (3.73) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 259 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 156 (60.23%) males and 103 (39.77%) females. Moreover, there were total 57 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 14 wards. Same as, total 103 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 46 females and 41 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
