In 2017 election of Vyas Municipality (Tanahun district), candidate Baikuntha Nath Neupane of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 13,056 (56.25%) votes out of total votes of 23,209 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Shankar Narayan Shrestha (kasaju) of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 9,592 (26.45%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 561 (1.21) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Mira Joshi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 13,260 (76.22%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Atindra Keshari Neupane of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 3,477 (11.34%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 661 (1.90) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 255 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 151 (59.22%) males and 104 (40.78%) females. Moreover, there were total 58 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 14 wards. Same as, total 94 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 47 females and 42 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
