In 2017 election of Urlabari Municipality (Morang district), candidate Khadga Bahadur Phagu of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 11,632 (51.47%) votes out of total votes of 22,600 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Bhupal Singh Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 8,542 (24.95%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,426 (5.37) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Laxmi Devi Bhandari of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 9,539 (42.87%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Sita Karki of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 9,280 (29.19%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 3,432 (7.71) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 230 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 139 (60.43%) males and 91 (39.57%) females. Moreover, there were total 50 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 86 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 40 females and 38 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
