In 2017 election of Triyuga Municipality (Udayapur district), candidate Bal Dev Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 11,368 (36.18%) votes out of total votes of 31,425 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Basanta Kumar Basnet of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 11,295 (26.39%) of votes. The rest of 9 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 8,762 (13.94) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Devi Kumari Chaudhary of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 11,322 (36.87%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Gita Devi Regmi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 11,279 (26.84%) of votes and came in second position. Other 9 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 8,106 (13.20) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 409 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 236 (57.70%) males and 173 (42.30%) females. Moreover, there were total 87 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 16 wards. Same as, total 153 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 73 females and 74 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
