In 2017 election of Tilottama Municipality (Rupandehi district), candidate Basu Dev Ghimire of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 21,868 (48.81%) votes out of total votes of 44,799 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ram Krishna Khan of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 19,094 (28.64%) of votes. The rest of 12 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 3,837 (4.28) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Jageshwor Devi Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 22,071 (49.35%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Gita Saru of Rastriya Janamukti Party (RasJanP) secured 18,784 (28.12%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 3,868 (4.32) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 355 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 213 (60.00%) males and 141 (39.72%) females. Moreover, there were total 82 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 17 wards. Same as, total 130 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 62 females and 59 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
