In 2017 election of Tikapur Municipality (Kailali district), candidate Tapendra Bahadur Rawal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,959 (25.21%) votes out of total votes of 23,636 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Lautan Chaudhary of Madheshi Janaadhikar Form Nepal (Loktantrik) (MadheJFP (L)) who secured 5,534 (18.70%) of votes. The rest of 9 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 12,143 (25.69) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Keshari Kumari Rawal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 6,226 (26.48%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Asha Kumari Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 5,553 (18.67%) of votes and came in second position. Other 7 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 11,736 (24.95) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 284 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 161 (56.69%) males and 123 (43.31%) females. Moreover, there were total 56 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 110 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 51 females and 47 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
