In 2017 election of Thantikandh Rural Municipality (Dailekh district), candidate Dhir Bahadur Shahi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 1,924 (33.44%) votes out of total votes of 5,754 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Rakcha Bahadur Shah of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 1,562 (20.34%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 2,268 (19.71) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Sushmita Singh of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 1,978 (34.77%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Bhadra Kumari Shahi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 1,532 (19.98%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 2,178 (19.15) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 133 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 80 (60.15%) males and 53 (39.85%) females. Moreover, there were total 27 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards. Same as, total 46 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 23 females and 23 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
