In 2017 election of Thalara Rural Municipality (Bajhang district), candidate Bhuvaneshwor Upadhyay of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,778 (45.81%) votes out of total votes of 6,064 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Ram Bahadur Khati of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 2,081 (23.54%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,205 (9.94) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Gangu Devi Khadayat of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,663 (45.09%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Pinki Dhami of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,035 (23.75%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,208 (10.23) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 141 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 83 (58.87%) males and 58 (41.13%) females. Moreover, there were total 27 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 53 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 27 females and 25 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
