In 2017 election of Thakurbaba Municipality (Bardiya district), candidate Dhan Narayan Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 7,074 (36.81%) votes out of total votes of 19,218 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Netra Raj Acharya of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 6,955 (26.45%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 5,189 (13.50) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Krishna Kushma Tharu of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 7,086 (36.99%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Bina Kumari Bhattarai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,975 (26.58%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 5,096 (13.30) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 192 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 110 (57.29%) males and 82 (42.71%) females. Moreover, there were total 38 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 74 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 35 females and 34 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
