In 2017 election of Tarakeshwor Municipality (Kathmandu district), candidate Rameshwor Bohara of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 9,326 (42.71%) votes out of total votes of 21,835 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Shreeram Thapa of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 7,757 (24.89%) of votes. The rest of 12 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 4,752 (10.88) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Bhawani Dotel/ Dhital of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 10,337 (48.09%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Gita Neupane / Aryal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 6,983 (21.94%) of votes and came in second position. Other 7 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 4,173 (9.71) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 298 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 185 (62.08%) males and 113 (37.92%) females. Moreover, there were total 71 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 11 wards. Same as, total 109 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 55 females and 40 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
