In 2017 election of Tapli Rural Municipality (Udayapur district), candidate Uddhav Singh Thapa of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 1,291 (26.26%) votes out of total votes of 4,917 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Padam Bahadur Tamang of Independent (Ind) who secured 1,268 (20.43%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 2,358 (23.98) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Kamal Maya Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 1,821 (38.56%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Dhana Maya Magar of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 1,563 (23.88%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,339 (14.18) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 89 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 55 (61.80%) males and 34 (38.20%) females. Moreover, there were total 18 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 5 wards.
