In 2017 election of Tansen Municipality (Palpa district), candidate Ashok Kumar Shahi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 10,450 (52.24%) votes out of total votes of 20,002 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ajay Man Karmacharya of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 8,067 (26.49%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 1,485 (3.71) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Laxmi Devi Pathak of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 9,753 (49.07%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Lal Kumari Rana of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 8,389 (28.31%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 1,733 (4.36) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 252 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 151 (59.92%) males and 101 (40.08%) females. Moreover, there were total 57 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 14 wards. Same as, total 93 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 46 females and 41 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
