In 2017 election of Talkot Rural Municipality (Bajhang district), candidate Lal Bahdur Bista of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,064 (47.59%) votes out of total votes of 4,337 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Rajendra Bahadur Singh of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 2,000 (31.25%) of votes. The rest of 1 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 273 (3.15) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Dhan Laxmi Khatri of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,057 (47.83%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Jaya Kumari Aidi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,037 (32.04%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 207 (2.41) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 91 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 55 (60.44%) males and 36 (39.56%) females. Moreover, there were total 18 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 7 wards. Same as, total 36 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 16 females and 15 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
