In 2017 election of Sundarbazar Municipality (Lamjung district), candidate Janak Raj Mishra of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,969 (44.00%) votes out of total votes of 11,293 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Badri Man Shrestha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 3,485 (21.43%) of votes. The rest of 5 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,839 (12.57) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Gyanu Shah of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,323 (46.58%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Shanta Bhujel of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 3,479 (25.57%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 1,479 (7.97) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 176 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 110 (62.50%) males and 66 (37.50%) females. Moreover, there were total 39 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 11 wards. Same as, total 65 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 30 females and 31 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
