In 2017 election of Sukhipur Municipality (Siraha district), candidate Ram Autar Yadav of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,111 (43.94%) votes out of total votes of 13,909 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Laxman Chaudhary of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) who secured 4,186 (20.91%) of votes. The rest of 19 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 3,612 (12.98) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Renu Devi Shah of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,086 (46.31%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Dip Narayan Yadav of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 3,354 (17.44%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 3,703 (14.09) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 217 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 136 (62.67%) males and 81 (37.33%) females. Moreover, there were total 40 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 75 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 38 females and 37 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
