In 2017 election of Simta Rural Municipality (Surkhet district), candidate Kabindra Kumar K.c of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,355 (50.26%) votes out of total votes of 10,654 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Khadga Bahadur Pokharel of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 4,604 (28.76%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 695 (3.26) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Chandrakala Shahi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,346 (49.99%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Bhima Malla of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,578 (28.54%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 771 (3.60) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 135 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 83 (61.48%) males and 52 (38.52%) females. Moreover, there were total 28 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 50 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 23 females and 24 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
