In 2017 election of Siddharthanagar Municipality (Rupandehi district), candidate Hari Prasad Adhikari of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,705 (30.14%) votes out of total votes of 22,244 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Matrika Prasad Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 5,250 (18.14%) of votes. The rest of 8 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 10,289 (23.13) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Uma Kafle of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,172 (28.37%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Madhavi Sharma Wagle of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,224 (18.71%) of votes and came in second position. Other 9 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 10,357 (23.81) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 417 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 238 (57.07%) males and 179 (42.93%) females. Moreover, there were total 91 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 13 wards. Same as, total 156 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 77 females and 72 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
