In 2017 election of Shuddhodhan Rural Municipality (Kapilvastu district), candidate Nisar Ahmad Musalman of Independent (Ind) secured 1,837 (15.90%) votes out of total votes of 11,555 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Kamlesh Sharan Chaudhary of Independent (Ind) who secured 1,763 (13.16%) of votes. The rest of 13 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 7,955 (34.42) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Sudha Devi Pandey of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,635 (26.51%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Bimala Kumarni of Naya Shakti Party Nepal (NSPN) secured 1,764 (14.03%) of votes and came in second position. Other 7 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 5,539 (27.87) of votes.

Moreover, there were total 55 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards.
