In 2017 election of Shubha Kalika Rural Municipality (Kalikot district), candidate Khadananda Chaulagain of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,274 (50.93%) votes out of total votes of 4,465 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Govinda Prasad Acharya (anil) of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 1,502 (22.29%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 689 (7.72) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Pampha Kumari Shahi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 1,990 (49.28%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Dipendra Bahadur Shahi of Nepal Majdoor Kissan Party (NMKP) secured 1,303 (21.62%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 745 (9.22) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 158 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 96 (60.76%) males and 62 (39.24%) females. Moreover, there were total 29 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 8 wards. Same as, total 63 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 30 females and 27 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
