In 2017 election of Shivalaya Rural Municipality (Jajarkot district), candidate Narendra Kumar Shahi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,073 (40.21%) votes out of total votes of 5,156 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Khadak Bahadur Budha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 1,833 (25.36%) of votes. The rest of 1 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,250 (12.12) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Kumari Thapa of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,063 (40.75%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Gita Kumari Singh Shahi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 1,812 (25.43%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,187 (11.72) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 135 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 83 (61.48%) males and 52 (38.52%) females. Moreover, there were total 28 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 52 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 26 females and 23 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
