In 2017 election of Shahid Lakhan Rural Municipality (Gorkha district), candidate Ramesh Babu Thapa Magar of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 3,808 (32.45%) votes out of total votes of 11,734 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Krishna Bahadur Ale of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 3,403 (21.90%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 4,523 (19.27) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Indira Tiwari of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 3,798 (32.98%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Sharmila Shrestha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,575 (23.34%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 4,144 (17.99) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 196 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 118 (60.20%) males and 78 (39.80%) females. Moreover, there were total 39 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 76 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 36 females and 35 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
