In 2017 election of Sandhikharka Municipality (Arghakhanchi district), candidate Kamal Prasad Bhusal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 8,230 (50.84%) votes out of total votes of 16,189 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Krishna Prasad Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 7,127 (29.19%) of votes. The rest of 5 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 832 (2.57) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Thakur Kumar B.k of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 7,365 (49.97%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Ishwora Pokhrel of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,404 (28.97%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 969 (3.29) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 253 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 157 (62.06%) males and 96 (37.94%) females. Moreover, there were total 57 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 12 wards. Same as, total 95 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 46 females and 43 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
