In 2017 election of Ruru Rural Municipality (Gulmi district), candidate Nilkantha Gautam of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,222 (57.64%) votes out of total votes of 9,060 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Yadu Gyawali of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 3,763 (26.35%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 75 (0.41) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Laxmi Devi Pantha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,483 (61.28%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Devendra Malla of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,462 (23.99%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 3 (0.02) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 71 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 45 (63.38%) males and 26 (36.62%) females. Moreover, there were total 14 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards. Same as, total 25 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 12 females and 12 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
