In 2017 election of Ratuwamai Municipality (Morang district), candidate Rabin Rai of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 9,895 (44.16%) votes out of total votes of 22,406 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Tikendra Bahadur Pomu of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 8,100 (25.08%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 4,411 (9.84) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Dayanta Devi Chudal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 8,372 (40.43%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Phulwati Devi Godi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 8,313 (28.59%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 4,023 (9.71) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 264 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 168 (63.64%) males and 96 (36.36%) females. Moreover, there were total 58 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 103 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 45 females and 44 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
