In 2017 election of Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality (Banke district), candidate Lahu Ram Tharu of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 8,236 (33.33%) votes out of total votes of 24,712 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Tulasi Ram Tharu of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 6,900 (20.94%) of votes. The rest of 7 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 9,576 (19.38) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Dhani Kumari Khatri of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 8,203 (33.70%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Chameli Kumari Bakwal of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,924 (21.27%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 9,217 (18.93) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 208 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 127 (61.06%) males and 81 (38.94%) females. Moreover, there were total 42 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 76 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 38 females and 37 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
