In 2017 election of Rapti Municipality (Chitwan district), candidate Prabha Baral of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 11,613 (52.96%) votes out of total votes of 21,929 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Kiran Bhushan Oli of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 7,292 (21.74%) of votes. The rest of 8 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 3,024 (6.89) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Iman Singh Moktan of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 11,882 (54.09%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Anita Mainali of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 7,074 (20.90%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 3,012 (6.86) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 268 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 169 (63.06%) males and 99 (36.94%) females. Moreover, there were total 63 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 13 wards. Same as, total 104 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 48 females and 36 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
