In 2017 election of Rangeli Municipality (Morang district), candidate Dilip Kumar Agrawal of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 8,068 (40.81%) votes out of total votes of 19,768 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Modraj Ghimire of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 6,186 (22.22%) of votes. The rest of 5 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 5,514 (13.95) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Keshav Kumari Kharal of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 5,719 (30.78%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Radha Devi Mandal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,707 (23.48%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 7,157 (19.26) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 249 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 159 (63.86%) males and 90 (36.14%) females. Moreover, there were total 57 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 94 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 44 females and 41 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
