In 2017 election of Ramgopalpur Municipality (Mahottari district), candidate Ashok Kumar Mandal of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 2,944 (29.39%) votes out of total votes of 10,018 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Raja Ram Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 2,759 (21.29%) of votes. The rest of 15 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 4,315 (21.54) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Sita Devi Shah of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 2,891 (29.42%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Pushpa Devi Kushwaha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,856 (22.46%) of votes and came in second position. Other 9 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 4,079 (20.76) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 243 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 152 (62.55%) males and 91 (37.45%) females. Moreover, there were total 50 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 82 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 43 females and 40 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
