In 2017 election of Ramdhuni Municipality (Sunsari district), candidate Jaya Prakash Chaudhary of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 9,706 (47.00%) votes out of total votes of 20,649 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Nanda Kumar Basnet of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 8,850 (29.15%) of votes. The rest of 8 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,093 (5.07) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Sabita Kumari Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 9,742 (48.09%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Bijaya Katuwal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 7,926 (26.42%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 2,588 (6.39) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 253 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 145 (57.31%) males and 108 (42.69%) females. Moreover, there were total 55 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 94 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 45 females and 41 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
