In 2017 election of Rajpur Municipality (Rautahat district), candidate Mo. Sakil Akhtar of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,388 (34.88%) votes out of total votes of 12,582 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Harinarayan Shah Kalwar of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 2,229 (13.13%) of votes. The rest of 18 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 5,965 (23.70) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Jafira Khatun of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,239 (33.85%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Sharmila Koirala of Naya Shakti Party Nepal (NSPN) secured 2,205 (13.15%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 6,080 (24.27) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 293 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 185 (63.14%) males and 108 (36.86%) females. Moreover, there were total 66 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 102 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 52 females and 46 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
