In 2017 election of Rajapur Municipality (Bardiya district), candidate Shiva Prasad Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 9,535 (35.65%) votes out of total votes of 26,744 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Dipak Jung Shah of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 8,843 (24.37%) of votes. The rest of 7 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 8,366 (15.64) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Mankala Kumari Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 9,360 (35.72%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Tara Chaudhary of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 8,805 (24.76%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 8,040 (15.34) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 256 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 150 (58.59%) males and 106 (41.41%) females. Moreover, there were total 57 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 92 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 46 females and 45 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
