In 2017 election of Putalibazar Municipality (Syangja district), candidate Sima Kumari Chhetri of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 10,249 (49.84%) votes out of total votes of 20,562 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Tulasi Ram Regmi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 9,029 (29.30%) of votes. The rest of 5 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 1,284 (3.12) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Mahesh Puri of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 10,379 (50.49%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Hira Devi Sharma of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 8,444 (27.30%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 1,734 (4.22) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 230 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 135 (58.70%) males and 95 (41.30%) females. Moreover, there were total 50 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 14 wards. Same as, total 87 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 43 females and 39 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
