In 2017 election of Purbakhola Rural Municipality (Palpa district), candidate Nun Bahadur Thapa of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,636 (74.48%) votes out of total votes of 7,567 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Jhaman Bahadur Rajmagar of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 1,732 (13.12%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 199 (1.31) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Bhagirathi Sharma (bhattarai) of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,531 (72.38%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Pushpa Gaha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 1,743 (13.23%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 368 (2.41) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 87 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 54 (62.07%) males and 33 (37.93%) females. Moreover, there were total 18 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards. Same as, total 32 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 16 females and 12 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
