In 2017 election of Phedap Rural Municipality (Terhathum district), candidate Hari Prasad Chongwang Limbu of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,439 (50.25%) votes out of total votes of 6,844 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Keshav Prasad Bhetwal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 3,220 (31.31%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 185 (1.35) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Geeta Devi Thapa of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,434 (64.25%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Ganga Prasad Limbu of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 1,701 (19.38%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 210 (1.96) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 87 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 57 (65.52%) males and 30 (34.48%) females. Moreover, there were total 18 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 5 wards. Same as, total 33 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 15 females and 12 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
