Phakphokthum is a Rural Municipality, which is located in Ilam district, Province No. 1 of Nepal. Phakphokthum has total 7 wards, which are scattered across 109 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Phakphokthum Rural Municipality had total population of 21,619.
Wardwise Population and Households
As per 2011 population census, Phakphokthum Rural Municipality had total 21,619 population with 10,112 males and 11,507 females. Out of total wards, ward number 1 had the largest population 3,731, while ward number 5 had least number of population with 3,731.
With respect to number of households, Phakphokthum Rural Municipality had total 4,634 households. The ward number 4 had most households with total 840, while ward number 6 had least number of households with total 534 number of households.

There were only 14,986 people fully literate in Phakphokthum Rural Municipality as of 2011 who were able to both read and write, while 543 people were able to read but not write. In percentage while compared to genderwise population, there were inf percent of male were literate, while the percentage of female literacy was inf only.The literacy ratio between male and female population was nan.
Out of total 6,511 population between the age of 5 and 25 as of 2011 in Phakphokthum Rural Municipality, total 3,199 males and 3,312 females were attending the school. Same as, out of total 1,918 population of the same age group who were not attending the school, total 819 male and 1,099 female were not attending teh school. The ratio of male and female who were going to school was 0.97 while the ratio for those who were not attending the school was 0.75.The CBS census also states that 37 males and 45 females did not state whether they were attending school or not.

Mostly spoken language in Phakphokthum is Nepali, which is spoken by 8,717 people. The Phakphokthum has people who speak other languages, such as Limbu, Rai, Magar, Bantawa, Tamang, Newar, Sunuwar, Gurung, Chamling, Sampang, Bhujel, Maithili, Hindi, Sherpa, Kulung, etc.

There were as little as Bote caste with population of as little as 12 in total. People of several other castes who live in Phakphokthum are Chhetri, Rai, Magar, Brahmin - Hill, Tamang, Kami, Newar, Damai/Dholi, Sunuwar, Sanyasi/Dashnami, Gharti/Bhujel, Gurung, Sarki, Undefined Others, Brahmin - Tarai, Sherpa, Bote, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Out of total 4634 households in Phakphokthum Rural Municipality, there were 4,291 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 74 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 9 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 107houses were founded on wood.
With respect to wall of the houses, 4,099 houses were mud bonded, 135 houses were cement bonded, 57 houses were wood planks bonded, 287 houses were bamboo bonded and 1 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.

The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.44.

out of 4,634 households in Phakphokthum Rural Municipality, 652 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 3,947 households reported of using at least one facility. Economic Census
According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 608 establishments in Phakphokthum Rural Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 1,579 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 920 and female engagement of 659 persons.In every business, there were an average of 2.60 people engaged with average males are 1.51 and females are 1.08. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 1.40, which means as many as 1.40 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
Similarly, the engagement of males were 58.26 percent while the females are 41.74 percent.
