In 2017 election of Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality (Sindhupalchok district), candidate Tashi Lama of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,885 (35.39%) votes out of total votes of 10,979 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Udaya Sapkota of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) who secured 3,039 (20.45%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 4,055 (18.47) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Sunita Adhikari of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,931 (36.59%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Sadikshya Gurung of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) secured 2,618 (17.84%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 4,193 (19.52) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 156 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 95 (60.90%) males and 61 (39.10%) females. Moreover, there were total 29 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 8 wards. Same as, total 58 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 29 females and 27 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
