In 2017 election of Panchkhapan Municipality (Sankhuwasabha district), candidate Bipin Rai of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,409 (46.95%) votes out of total votes of 7,261 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Man Singh Pokharel of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 3,330 (31.21%) of votes. The rest of 2 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 522 (3.59) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Bhima Devi Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,380 (46.91%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Sita Kumari Shrestha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,029 (28.62%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 796 (5.52) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 137 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 82 (59.85%) males and 55 (40.15%) females. Moreover, there were total 28 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 51 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 25 females and 24 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
