In 2017 election of Panchapuri Municipality (Surkhet district), candidate Upendra Bahadur Thapa of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,134 (42.19%) votes out of total votes of 12,170 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Man Bahadur Kami of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 4,732 (27.35%) of votes. The rest of 11 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,304 (9.47) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Mukti Devi Regmi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,204 (43.16%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Raj Kumari Tiwari of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,824 (27.95%) of votes and came in second position. Other 7 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 2,029 (8.41) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 256 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 160 (62.50%) males and 96 (37.50%) females. Moreover, there were total 57 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 11 wards. Same as, total 94 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 46 females and 37 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
