In 2017 election of Panauti Municipality (Kavrepalanchok district), candidate Bhim Neupane of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 12,257 (51.70%) votes out of total votes of 23,707 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Bidur Banjara of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 9,190 (25.55%) of votes. The rest of 9 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,260 (4.77) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Geeta Banjara of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 12,099 (51.04%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Anju Ranjit of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 9,128 (25.49%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 2,478 (5.23) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 255 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 165 (64.71%) males and 90 (35.29%) females. Moreover, there were total 60 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 12 wards. Same as, total 97 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 43 females and 38 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
