In 2017 election of Palungtar Municipality (Gorkha district), candidate Deepak Babu Kandel of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,698 (30.05%) votes out of total votes of 15,632 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Bibas Chintan of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 4,491 (22.09%) of votes. The rest of 3 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 6,443 (20.61) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Pampha Basel of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 4,494 (28.75%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Chet Kumari Shrestha of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,196 (20.85%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 6,941 (22.20) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 239 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 140 (58.58%) males and 99 (41.42%) females. Moreover, there were total 45 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 93 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 47 females and 43 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
