In 2017 election of Pakhribas Municipality (Dhankuta district), candidate Brish Bahadur Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,439 (50.81%) votes out of total votes of 8,737 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Indira Thapa of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 1,628 (12.36%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 2,670 (15.28) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Dev Kala Paudel (timsina) of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,426 (51.24%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Gyan Bahadur Gurung of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 1,833 (14.03%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 2,378 (13.77) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 221 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 129 (58.37%) males and 92 (41.63%) females. Moreover, there were total 49 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 81 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 43 females and 35 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
