In 2017 election of Neelakantha Municipality (Dhading district), candidate Bhim Prasad Dhungana of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 13,166 (63.90%) votes out of total votes of 20,603 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Arjun Kumar Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 6,990 (20.70%) of votes. The rest of 8 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 447 (1.08) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Man Raj Bhandari of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 10,323 (56.05%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Ganga Devi Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 7,444 (25.90%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 652 (1.77) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 305 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 199 (65.25%) males and 106 (34.75%) females. Moreover, there were total 74 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 14 wards. Same as, total 116 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 50 females and 49 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
