In 2017 election of Naugad Rural Municipality (Darchula district), candidate Prem Singh Dhami of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,289 (40.46%) votes out of total votes of 5,658 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Jagat Singh Thagunna of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 1,816 (22.85%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 1,553 (13.72) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Gauri Devi Thagunna of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,306 (40.88%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Lalmati Dhami of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 1,777 (22.36%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,558 (13.81) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 99 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 60 (60.61%) males and 39 (39.39%) females. Moreover, there were total 19 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards. Same as, total 36 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 18 females and 17 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
