In 2017 election of Narayan Municipality (Dailekh district), candidate Ratna Bahadur Khadka of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,725 (45.99%) votes out of total votes of 10,273 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Maniram Regmi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 4,451 (29.68%) of votes. The rest of 7 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 1,097 (5.34) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Sabitri Malla of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,866 (47.62%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Basna Thapa of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,289 (28.43%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 1,064 (5.21) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 204 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 118 (57.84%) males and 86 (42.16%) females. Moreover, there were total 43 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 11 wards. Same as, total 74 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 37 females and 34 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
