In 2017 election of Mirchaiya Municipality (Siraha district), candidate Shrawan Kumar Yadav of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 4,736 (27.53%) votes out of total votes of 17,200 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Sitaram Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 3,317 (15.12%) of votes. The rest of 20 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 9,147 (26.59) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Jivachi Devi of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 4,939 (29.07%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Nirjala Kumari Singh of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,299 (15.04%) of votes and came in second position. Other 7 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 8,751 (25.75) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 444 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 263 (59.23%) males and 181 (40.77%) females. Moreover, there were total 91 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 12 wards. Same as, total 158 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 81 females and 83 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
